“Joshua was able to hit it out of the park time and time again, whether it was designing impressive UI moments and rewards, tackling cinematic design, and managing mix states. He always approaches new tasks with optimism and a thirst for knowledge which has made him a huge asset and extremely enjoyable to collaborate with.

ABOUT JOSHUA GOUZY

Joshua Gouzy is a Principal Sound Designer at Bit Reactor and a member of the audio team behind critically-acclaimed Star Wars: Zero Company. His work on the game spans sound design, implementation, mixing, and polish across lightsabers, Force abilities, blasters, creatures, environments, UI, character abilities, the player starship, and other major gameplay systems.

A New Orleans native, Joshua grew up surrounded by music in a family with four generations of musical heritage. He learned much of his early musicianship by ear, playing in his church band before going on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Music Education with a minor in Jazz Studies from Loyola University New Orleans and a Master's degree in Music from the University of New Orleans.

Long before working in games, Joshua spent years as a professional musician, producer, and audio engineer in New Orleans. He has performed with more than a dozen bands, appeared on over 35 albums, and in 2012 founded Magnolia Entertainment, a music booking company focused on bringing authentic New Orleans music to events throughout the region.

Joshua made the move into game audio through the Sound for Picture and Games program at the Pyramind Audio Production Institute. After graduating in 2021, he joined the audio team at Turn 10 Studios through Keywords Studios. There, he shipped the award-winning Forza Motorsport as a Senior Sound Designer, contributing interactive sound design, FMOD implementation, environmental and cinematic audio, user-interface sound, gameplay and presentation mixing, and the game’s dynamic music system.

That path eventually brought him to Bit Reactor and, somewhat surrealistically, to Star Wars. Drawing on a lifetime spent making music and more recent years designing interactive audio, Joshua approaches game sound as both a creative and technical craft. He loves building sounds that feel great in the moment, respond naturally to the player, and become an inseparable part of the world around them.

When he isn't designing sound, he's still doing what started all of this in the first place: playing upright bass around New Orleans.
